Make a date in your diary for this year's Party in the Park. Between the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the beginning of London 2012 Olympics.
We have had a report that a dog was attacked and almost killed in the Wootton Doorstep Green Park (Recreation Ground) last Sunday (15th January 2012) by a brown Staffordshire bull terrier, accompanied by a man in his early 20s.
The man supplied false details so the Police are extremely keen to track him down. It seems there were witnesses who need to come forward – with thanks needing to be given to them for helping attend to the injured dog. After the owner of the injured dog spoke to a few local people it seems this man and dog have been seen before which indicates they are probably local.
It is imperative this dog is found as it sounds as if it is a danger to other dogs and children who use the park. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Please contact the Clerk at the Parish Council on 884555 so that information can be passed on to the Police, or call the Police directly using the 101 number.
Thank you.
This year's Wootton Bridge Christmas Festival was enjoyed by over 200 people, with the highlight undoubtedly being the Roving Nativity Play and visit the stable, followed by carols under the Christmas Tree. The pictures below are courtesy of Doreen Gazey and Gordon Tutton.
Many thanks to the organisers and all who attended or supported the event.
We hope that this will become a regular part of our annual event. If you would to help or become involved, please come along to the next Wootton Bridge Village Partnership meeting to be held at the Help & Information Centre on Tuesday 7th February 2012, at 7pm. All welcome.

In 2009 the Wootton Bridge Parish Council were successful in obtaining £50,000 from the Play Builder Fund to create an adventure playground on the Recreation Ground. This playground has been welcomed by children and parents and used intensively over the last two years. The 2009 grant was specifically for an “adventure playground”, specified for 7 to 14 year olds, and did not fund any fencing.
The Parish Council has always wished to install equipment for the younger children, and we have had many requests that the area be fenced, but to date we have not had the finance for this work.
We are pleased to announce that we have now sourced a further £10,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund, which, together with some funds already held by the Parish Council, is sufficient to install hooped fencing, gates at either end, and hopefully two pieces of play equipment, a set of toddler swings, and a small slide. We are now liaising with the Isle of Wight Council to ensure that there is room in the play area for this equipment.
We would expect that this work can be undertaken through the winter, so that by Spring 2012 we will have a Play Area, fenced, with additional equipment for the under 7 year olds.

My name, for those who may not already know it, is Gill Salter aka 'The Tree Lady' Tree Warden for Wootton Bridge Parish Council. This is a voluntary position that I have held for about twelve years during which time I have acquired quite a bit of knowledge. The object of having a Tree Warden is to promote the preservation, health and welfare of trees and hedgerows within the Parish and to offer advice to you the public if you think you may have a problem with a tree. I have to emphasise though, that as a volunteer I have no statutory powers and can only offer advice or refer your problem to the relevant department.
I hold a surgery at the Wootton Bridge Parish Council Help and Information Centre on the first Friday of every month, so if you have concerns do come and bring them to me and I may be able to help. Alternatively I can be contacted between 9.00a.m - 5.00p.m. on 882905 Mondays - Fridays. It might be possible to answer your problem there and then or an appointment can be made and I will visit you.
Regards Gill Salter
